Creativity and your Three Selves

by Natalie Vartanian | Jul 31, 2019 | Blog, Creativity, Self-Expression

We are in relationship all of the time. With all sorts of things. It is not merely people we are in relationship with. It is places, things, animals, plants, hobbies, actions, etc. Creativity is one of those ‘things’ that we are in relationship with and do not fully...

Is something calling you? Maybe in your job, your Is something calling you? Maybe in your job, your life's purpose, in your closest relationship(s), or in the way you relate to yourself? Something was certainly calling me, about 40 years ago, when I was just twenty years old and unexpectedly pregnant! I was swirling with emotions and unsure of what to do. Amid the emotional upheaval, I took a train home to Leer, Germany, for a change of scenery, and it was on this train ride that I answered that call to something new and beautiful with a Yes! In my memoir, Initiations in Love, I write:

I am going to do this! A small yet determined voice from within suddenly made itself known. No matter what anyone says, even if I have to do this alone. I might not be a super woman, and I’m for sure not the bravest person on this planet, but I somehow will be strong enough for this. Somehow this is going to work out…This inner strength felt very different from the false ego strength I had seen crumble before. This was more like a true power!

Want to know more of the story? Want me to read it to you?

Tune into the second episode of the Initiations in Love podcast, which is a follow-up to my previous episode: Finding Freedom in Motherhood with Jess Geist. I read from my book and guide you through a journaling exercise to explore where something new and beautiful (and possibly quite daunting!) might be calling you!

Hi dear friends, these pictures are of me as a you Hi dear friends, these pictures are of me as a young mama with my first-born son, Janosch.

In my first Initiations in Love Podcast episode, I speak with my student, friend, and business mentor, Jess Geist about her incredible initiation journey into motherhood.

I had quite an initiation into mine too!

About 40 years ago now, at barely twenty years old, I found myself unexpectedly pregnant. And I was not ready to be parent: I had no money, my education was incomplete, and I was in a very new relationship. I was swirling with emotions and unsure of what to do! Yet, amid the emotional upheaval, I took a train home to Leer, Germany, for a change of scenery, and it was on this train ride that I knew my journey into motherhood - one of the most primal passages and initiations in Love - was beginning.

And it kept going! The power of a mother’s love awakened in me while bonding with my newborn son in eye gazing love. This love was so sweet, soft, open, and surrendered, yet incredibly powerful and grounded. It felt so true and pure and at the same time, was deeply earthy and primal. It was a profound Initiation in Love, into the amazing power of the Feminine.

On that recent episode of my new podcast, Jess shares how she went from absolutely not wanting to be a mother, to sitting and speaking with me for the podcast at nine months pregnant! It’s such a sweet episode and I’m delighted to share it with you. And it’s not just about motherhood, but about any time we are called to something beyond our comprehension we think we cannot possibly do. This might be happening for you right now, dear one! If you haven’t already, check it out at the link below. And if you feel called, please share with your friends, family, and loved ones!

Did you hear?? BIG ANNOUNCEMENT! First, my new s Did you hear?? BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!

First, my new spiritual memoir, Initiations in Love, is in its final stages with the publisher and will be available for pre-order soon. It’s been years in the making and I’m ecstatic (and a bit terrified - though aren’t all first-time authors!?) to share it with you.

I tell my unique and unusual journey — from an atheist upbringing, deep engagement in New Age practices, time spent in Indian ashrams and U.S. Christian monasteries, to eventual mystical Catholicism — and how I moved through life’s five initiation stages: The Awakening, The Call, The Transformation Cauldron, The Emerging, and The Gift. I pretty much bare my soul, which is super nerve-wracking on one level, but as my book coach shared with me at the beginning of this writing journey, whatever is the most personal is also the most universal. So my hope is that this very personal account of my spiritual journey will deeply resonate with YOU, and move you forward on yours.

In the meantime, I’m excited to share my new podcast “Initiations in Love” will be out next week! This podcast is inspired by my memoir and features fascinating and inspiring conversations about rites of passage of real people who said YES to being catapulted into a new level of Love.

The first episode will be available on Wednesday, April 10th. Stay tuned! I’ll post a link here so you can tune in, listen, and share with your loved ones.
