Episode 51: Finding the Joy: Compassionate End of Life Caregiving with Mark Steven Porro

Jul 1, 2026

Have you ever found yourself caring for someone you love and wondered how to keep your heart open when life becomes difficult, exhausting, or uncertain?

In this episode of Initiations in Love, Britta sits down with author Mark Steven Porro for a moving conversation about caring for his aging mother during the final years of her life. What began as an unexpected interruption became a profound initiation into love, compassion, and presence.

Together, they explore the realities of end-of-life caregiving, the role reversal between parent and child, and the surprising joy that can emerge even in the midst of grief and decline. Mark shares how learning to preserve his mother’s dignity, create moments of beauty, and simply be present transformed not only her final chapter, but his own life as well.

This conversation is an invitation to discover that even in life’s hardest seasons, love can deepen, joy can coexist with sorrow, and sometimes the person we think we are caring for becomes our greatest teacher.
