Episode 58: Learning to Stay With Yourself: A Practice of Self-Compassion – A Processing Exercise
What if the most compassionate thing you could do for yourself was to stop trying to fix what hurts and simply stay present with it?
In this follow-up to her conversation with Robert Cusick, Britta explores why self-compassion can be so difficult, and how our attempts to escape, judge, or change our suffering often leave us feeling even more alone.
Drawing on Robert’s insight that compassion is Love’s response to suffering, Britta guides listeners through the Welcome Prayer, a contemplative practice from her book Initiations in Love. Through this simple yet profound practice, she invites us to welcome difficult emotions, stay present with what we feel in our bodies, and meet ourselves with an open heart.
With guided reflection and journaling, Britta explores what it means to stop abandoning ourselves when life gets hard, and how reconnecting with challenging emotions in this way can help us find our way back to what matters most.
Because suffering is part of being human.
And learning to meet it with compassion may be one of the deepest lessons in our School of Love.
